Florida

Florida is the one of the most popular vacation destinations in the United States. It is home to over 18 million residents and is the 4th most populous U.S. state. Located in the southeastern corner of the United States on peninsula of land that divides the Atlantic Ocean from the Gulf of Mexico, Florida is aptly nicknamed the 'Sunshine State,' and famous for its year-round great climate. Summer temperatures are usually in the mid 80s with it rarely reaches over 100F. Florida is the most hurricane-prone state in the U.S., with tropical storms common during hurricane season, which runs from June 1 to November 30. Brief afternoon thunderstorms are also frequent from late spring to early fall but the sun never stops shining here for long. Although Florida's cities can be large and sprawling, the state has many wilderness areas which are a haven for wildlife and home to exotic creatures like the American alligator, Florida black-bears, and nine-banded armadillos. Florida is also bird watchers paradise and serves as the winter home for most species of eastern North American birds.

Tourism is the largest industry in the state, with over 60 million visitors coming to Florida every year. The hundreds of golden beaches are world-renown and a major attraction for visitors. For more active travelers, Florida has endless opportunities, such as diving, surfing and some of the world's best fishing along the states stunning coastlines, or hiking - the Florida National Scenic Trail is a network of over 1400 miles of linked hiking trails. The state is also an ideal destination for families and boasts a number of famous theme parks, like Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando and Seaworld. Whatever your tastes, Florida has something to offer for all ages, for visitors both young and old.
